Interviewees
Sommer Hill is a journalist and social media strategist who uses her skills to advocate for social justice and the arts. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Sommer grew up in several cities, including Detroit, Toronto, and the District of Columbia. She holds a BA in Media, Journalism, and Film from Howard university with a minor in Spanish. Sommer gained production experience working with NBC, CBS, Fox, and BET. She is currently the senior social media associate for NPR and the host of her own talk show
‘It’s Sommer Time’.

My curiosity came from moving around so much. At the age of 12, I both left the country and moved for the very first time to Toronto, Canada. Every thing I knew changed. That experience showed me the depth of cultures and backgrounds. Also the possibilities that
existed outside of the rooms I was in.
That same curiosity has landed me in many rooms and in conversations with many different people. Thus, blossomed my appreciation for storytelling.
I have heard stories from musicians, producers, janitors, mothers, addicts and survivors to name a few. But what I’ve gotten from these stories has shaped and developed my character. We’re all here to learn from each other. And I’m on a quest to continue learning, and continue being a
student until I am no longer.
